Lions Programs

Our Roar Can Be Heard In So Many Places!

Kidsight Eye Program & The Kids Eye Van

Lions Clubs worldwide are all about vision issues; nobody has done more. The Lions Club of Taos is no different, we are true to this core mission. Our goal is to identify vision problems early, correct them, and give the student the best opportunity to learn to their fullest potential.  Vision testing at all Taos County schools each fall and starting this year a mobile Eye Van equipped with an optometrist and all that is necessary to do eye exams and prescriptions!

Taos Elder Benevolent Services - TEBS

The goal of Taos Elder Benevolent Services, a non-profit organization, is to help elders maintain a high quality of life and health. We provide free guidance to those elders and their families as they apply for federal support programs and as they transition to comfortable, adequate housing in their community or long-term support in a caregiving facility.

Flags on the Taos Plaza

This is one service project that is enjoyed by Lions and Non-Lions alike. Displaying 76 US Flags around the Taos Plaza is a labor of love that we look forward to at least seven times a year. All are welcome to pitch in, please come join us.

Community Charities

The Lions Club of Taos recognizes that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support.  Through our Community Charities effort, we provide funding to support many worthwhile causes. Each year we award thousands of dollars to various groups which are making a positive impact in our community.

Tio Vivo Carousel

Assembling the Tio Vivo two to three times a year for the kids to ride takes a lot of hard work; but we are happy to do it, it is truly a labor of love. Nothing warms our hearts like an elderly Taoseno recalling when they rode the same carousel that their grandkids are now riding.

Adult Vision

The Lions Club of Taos is serious about helping folks of all ages that struggle with vision problems. We make funds available each year to help defray the costs of vision exams, the purchase of eyeglasses, and on a few occasions we are able to help subsidize the cost of routine eye surgical procedures.

Eyeglass Collection

Did you know that you can make a positive change in someone's life by donating your old eyeglasses?
We make it easy for you to donate by placing collection boxes around town at places you visit often.

Kit Carson Electric, Centinel Bank of Taos, Real Eyes Optometry, Dr. Jane Compton, Ancianos Senior Center, Super Save Grocery Store, Walmart, CAV Thrift Store, Cid's Food Market, and Millicent Rogers Museum

Community Health and Technical Education - CHATE

We believe in supporting local workforce programs to fill gaps that serve the critical needs of our community.  For over two decades, the Lions Club of Taos has partnered with UNM-Taos to support a pathway for students enrolled in Nursing, EMT, CNA and technical certificate programs.  We subsidize mandated entry and certification expenses incurred by all health care programs students to reduce barriers to education versus individual scholarships. Graduates have remained in the community and are serving their neighbors.

CHATE's 2025 initiative is to collaborate with recognized Respite Caregiver training sources and state online registry to find and engage trained, vetted persons to provide temporary rest and relief for family caregivers.

By doing this, we invest in the community and make northern New Mexico a better place to live.

We hope to fill much needed employment gaps in our community by targeting our dollars to where the need is, we are investing in the community and making Taos a better place to live.

HELPING HAND PUEBLO PROJECT

The Lions Club works with the Taos Pueblo Day School Principal and teaching staff to select families with children who are facing financial difficulties and food insecurities.

PICK'A POCKET PARK PICKUP

The Lions Club of Taos will periodically identify a "pocket park" in need of cleaning up, then we step up and provide the labor and inspiration to beautiful the area by picking up trash and removing the invasive species as necessary. Join Us.
