ADULT VISION

The Lions Club of Taos is serious about helping folks of all ages that struggle with vision problems. We make funds available each year to help defray the costs of vision exams, and the purchase of eyeglasses. We also work with the NM Lions Eye Bank to obtain financial assistance for cataract surgery. We wish to acknowledge St. James Episcopal Church who have been wonderful partners in this effort.

MOST OF US TAKE GOOD VISION FOR GRANTED, BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO NOT BE SO FORTUNATE?

We know how important it is to be able to see clearly. If you need help paying for an eye exam, the Lions Club can help. We have made special arrangements with local eye care professionals for discounted rates. We are eager to get you the eye care you need.

IMAGINE SEEING CLEARLY AGAIN...

We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Imagine not being able to enjoy the beauty because of an easily correctable eye condition, that would be a terrible shame. It would be our pleasure to arrange for a local eye professional to diagnose your problem; and if necessary, we can arrange for financial assistance to ease the burden of new eyeglasses or cataract surgery .

Adult Vision Testimonial  by Andy Johnson, Director

I was visiting family for Thanksgiving in Long Island, NY when early that morning I received a phone call from Taos. I answered and it was a man by the name of Juan Angel who had called to thank me and Lions Club for helping him pay for cataract surgery. His surgery went well, he was seeing clearly and just as important the surgery had stopped the gradual decline toward blindness. Juan had chosen this day of Thanksgiving to express his heart-felt thanks. I could tell he was almost in tears.

Juan is the night supervisor at the Taos Men’s Shelter and was referred to Lions. His job is stressful while working with a difficult population. He sensed that his vision was becoming ever cloudier and was getting worse. He was dealing with the stress of the job and his declining vision. We started the interview process working closely with New Mexico Lions Eye Bank and Eye Associates of New Mexico. Angel’s application was approved and he was able to schedule his surgery.

How gratifying it was to be able to help someone in distress and get such an expression of gratitude.
