Taos Lions at a Glance
We are 35 members strong. Our membership comes from diverse backgrounds, but we all share one common value: we are committed to serving our community. You probably already know the Lions Club has made Tio Vivo available to generations of kids; but did you know we also put 76 US Flags around the Taos Plaza on major holidays? Did you know we are behind the free eye screenings at all Taos county schools? These are just a few of our club projects, read on to learn about the many other ways we serve the Taos community.

Ways we help our Community of
Taos, New Mexico
Meaningful Service, Unforgettable Experiences

We are the
Knights of the Blind!
We organize and conduct free vision screening to all Taos students.
Helping Elders stay in their homes by offering free guidance as they apply for Federal Assistance programs.

Flags on the Taos Plaza
Our members proudly place 76 US Flags around the Taos Plaza for most major holidays. We believe in displaying our patriotic spirit.
Taos Lions help where we can by supporting other charitable organizations who are doing good work throughout the Taos community.

For 84 years, the Lions Club has been bringing smiles to kids and parents alike. Tio Vivo is a New Mexico treasure.
We partner with three local eye care professionals to subsidize eye exams, eyeglasses, and cataract surgery for local residents in need.
We collect unneeded eyeglasses and redistribute them to those who can benefit from clearer vision.
We help students fill the needs of Taos through scholarships in the fields of: Nursing, EMT training, CDL licensing, and CNA training.
Would you like to support our efforts?
We welcome all donations of time, talent or treasure.

Responding to a call from Helen Keller in 1925, to be "Knights of the Blind", the Lions Club has been focused on vision issues. We use up-to-date technology to screen the eyes of every Taos County student (with parental consent) to identify vision impairments as early as possible. We have been proudly providing this free service for nearly twenty years. Fall of 2022 we have screened over 2,500 school children in Taos County's 22 schools!
